GMR Hyderabad International Airport has been taking multiple initiatives in managing and maintaining airport in eco-friendly manner and had become first airport in world to be being awarded with Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Silver rating for its various initiatives.

With the successful experience of DIAL, Hyderabad International Airport decided to take initiative ahead and install solar photovoltaic system in its premises to take benefit of savings in energy cost as well as take accelerated depreciation, an incentive extended by government of India.

Installed solar power plant close to Greenfield airport is already generating close to 25MWh of energy each day and taking over close to 40% of peak power demand of Hyderabad International airport. With abundant land available within airport premises project was built in land parcel outside airport terminal
